I take it Canadians haven't been paying attention to the U.S. housing bubble?

LOL at the one that says, "The low price is due to the lack of stainless steel appliances." I always laugh at that when I'm watching House Hunters on HGTV and it's something that is a "dealbreaker" for the home buyer.

OMG Right? People will pass up crazy good deals/houses for the stupidest shit. Take your dumb ass to Sears and buy your $1200 SS fridge or $80 sconce light yourself. There was one episode of "My First Place" where the husbands main concern about the house was the LIGHT FIXTURES ....Gimme a break.

Well, if you don't know how to do any of that stuff yourself and hiring someone to do it would be $$$, then yeah, it can be. I wanted wall to wall carpeting. That not being in the house would have been a dealbreaker. I'm guessing this particular hubbin had no idea how to replace the fixtures.

This would have been my ex. He doesn't work with his hands, he loves saving money, and he's extremely impatient and wants everything NOW.

When I moved into my new apartment a couple years ago, I put together all of my furniture while he hung pictures. And he could ALWAYS sniff out a deal. It was kind of amazing, actually, how sometimes he'd manage to get discounts on things that weren't even on sale.

Personally, I think it's crazy to pass on a house because of one small thing that could easily be changed, but to each their own.

Exactly. The goal for many homebuyers, who don't have tons of money to spare, is to not buy a house that they know (going into it) has things that they don't like or things that they consider lacking. Even something as seemingly frivolous as stainless steel applicances; I can see being apprehensive about buying a house without stainless steel appliances if you think you will keep thinking "I wish it had stainless steel appliances" or will eventually end up spending extra money and time replacing the appliances. All while paying mortgage, etc.

I wish someone would think they could tell me what "a good deal" is when it comes to my house and my money. It really depends on a number of factors.

As a person who bought a fixer upper at a low price, I guarantee when I move that stuff will already be there. Yes you save $$$ in the long run, but if you are the type that values your time just as much as your money, it isn't worth it.

Especially with an old house, its never "just" replacing an appliance.
