Korean Cuisine Lovers: Hwachae

Does anyone have a recipe for Hwachae?

It's a punch.... I'd like to try to make it some day but I can't find any recipes online.

Good luck! For the past couple of months, I've craved Korean food. I searched forever for good recipes. It's like impossible.

Try this one (you can probably find berries at a good oriental market)

2 liters carbonated water
1/4 cup Omija berries
apples, nectarines, kiwi, melon cut into chunks
honey to taste

Open bottle of water, pour out a slight amount. Add Omija berries and let steep O/N in refrigerator

Next day, mix the fruit with the omija water. Serve cool, in a punch bowl. Berries are not eaten. Sweeten individual drinks with honey.

I can ask my mom when I talk to her tomorrow. I'd look in my Korean cookbook, but its packed in boxes that I won't have access to for a couple of weeks.

I talked to my aunt today and she told me this recipe:

3-4 TBSP oh mi cha berries (should be readily available in any Asian grocery store)
1 1/2 cups of water
1/3-1/2 cup of sugar
1 asian pear
pine nuts

Take the berries and put them into a bowl with 1 cup of water. Let the bowl sit overnight in the fridge.

Strain the berries from the water and set it aside.

Dilute the sugar and 1/2 c of water.

Mix the sugar water with the berry water. If it isn't sweet enough, add more sugar.

Take the pear and chop it into large pieces. Add the pieces to the punch.

Top the punch off with a few pine nuts.

Serve it very cold or with ice.

Thanks, both of you! I'm gonna try it!

There is an Asian grocery in Silver Spring which should have what I need.
