Wait, how is "BetaXi" bear NOT a play on the AlphaXi Bear? Al Fuzzie?

It's ok though. I'm so glad Alumiyum is here to tell me how much I'm overreacting.

No, I think Alumiyum meant that "BetaXi" bear was Alpha Xi Delta's mascot. She must have gotten that mixed up. I don't think that this England-type sorority has a name for their mascot. I'm not sure but, I think she meant "AlphaXi" bear. I think that is the name of the Alpha Xi Delta bear.

Ah, some how I missed that Al Fuzzie got replaced? by BetaXi.

Either way, despite the pedantry, she's 16 and fucked up. Ok. This thread is really more about what is or isn't ok as far as starting new orgs. Or at least it could be and that would be far more interesting than Dr. Phil pointing out that Alumiyum is minimizing what occurred by omitting the literal plagerism of a KD phrase. Something that the OP also admitted occurred.

OP, learn a lesson about two things a) how you present yourself online. Lying to try to make yourself sound more knowledgeable gets you in the end. and b) Make it a point to educate yourself about sororities. We're not just colors, letters, and clever phrases. If you get that, you'll get why it matters to us when you use them.

I'd be lying if I said I knew much about the mascot names of various GLOs. What I was saying is that you jumped on her when I believe she meant that was the name of Alpha Xi Delta's mascot. She made a mistake. That's fine. I can see that some people feel she is minimizing the use of various phrases, colors and mascots. Maybe so. I'm not sure. I just feel as if she could have totally agreed with you and you probably would have still ripped her a new one. She's been taking a beating in various threads. I disagree with what the OP did but, everyone explained to her why she is wrong. This thread seems to have turned from telling the OP about her stupidity to letting Alumiyum know people disagree with her.

Out of all the people arguing in this thread, you picked me to make your point on? Special.

FAIL.
You and Dr. Phil have a side conversation going on here. The thread isn't about that, and you aren't interested in anyone's viewpoint other than your own on this topic. I see your viewpoint. I think it's an overreaction. I do not have to agree with you to understand what you're saying.

I see als has explained...and is correct. The OP is using a a teddy bear. AXi's is a specific bear...and BetaXi bear is what the website calls the mascot.

I skipped over the KD phrase, but have now read the OP's response and she obviously understands that is taboo. Super duper crisis averted.

*redundacy*We aren't just talking about colors. Anyway, speak for yourself and the role that symbols play for your organization. Don't encourage aspiring founders to discount stealing just because it doesn't bother you and apparently your sorority.*redundancy*

I apologize. I figured she had an organization-based opinion and not just an individual one.

Meh, as a rule I wouldn't say Alpha Gams get all up in arms about things like mascots, colors, etc, but heraldry and what colors/symbols/mascots mean or represent to us is certainly important. Of course, I don't expect someone that's like "oh haaaaaaaaay I like red, yellow and green too!" and has an affinity for the squirrelier things in life to know our meanings behind it.

As I've said several times now, neither you nor I speak for our respective organizations.

It's actually BetXi Bear. Sounds like Betsy. I don't remember exactly when Al Fuzzie was retired.....I'm pretty sure it was before I joined in 2004.

FWIW the website said BetXi was adopted 1989.
