A friend from church pledged TriDelt today--she's a sophomore and got very involved in some leadership positions last year at Alabama, made a lot of friends and gave it another go with successful results this time around. It's not something that you can count on, but it does happen.

Guess with all the full houses there won't be many snap bids or spring rush bids.
Oh well, perhaps the new expansion sorority (Delta Gamma?) or again next fall as a more experienced sophomore.
Thanks to all for the great thread and congrats to the new pledges.

Tide Mom,
So glad that you had chosen to be in Tuscaloosa today. And were able to be there with your daughter.
Even though everyone made quota; girls will drop, transfer, not come back and graduate. Last year some of the chapters had closed spring rush. Not sure which chapter or how many. UGA had a spring rush for the first time last year too. My understanding was that before a new chapter can colonize that all of the chapters have to be at quota and this is why a few houses had a closed spring rush in 2010.
Encourage your daughter to get involved on Campus. There will be a day on the quad soon that all of the organizations will be recruiting. And to focus on getting really good grades. I have known a number of girls who had success after being in this situation.

i think you meant total-it can be very confusing. good advice though, whether
tide daughter decides to try recruitment in the spring if any of the groups hold it, next fall or finds her niche elsewhere on campus.

This is a great reason for the Upperclass Quota and a terrific argument for deferred recruitment. I have always been a fan of allowing first year freshmen to become acclimated with college life before going through recruitment.

Just returned from Bid Day and it was so exciting to see all of the new members at each of their houses! I have a Phi Mu, Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Delta Pi, Tri Delta and Alpha Phi. All of the girls were thrilled to have gotten their first choices and it was a wonderful day!
Congratulations to all of the new members!

Congrats to all the New Members! Tidemom, I'm also glad you were able to be there for your daughter, she's lucky to have you! She will have a great college experience regardless if she chooses to go through it all again!

Just got home from Tuscaloosa, the proud Mom of an Alpha Chi Omega!!!
This was after several preference night twists and turns, and hard decisions.
Congrats to all, and good luck to those who choose a different path of involvement on campus.
Also a big thanks to the ladies of GC and my daughters rec writer friends and family members. I can honestly say that those recs were read and instrumental in my daughters successful rush experience. She pledged a house that doesn't even have a chapter in our state, but sge was diligent in finding recs for it from alumni friends of family members. Many thanks to them. We may not have done this if it wasn't for the persistance of GC posters.

Yea Bamamama14! I hope your daughter has as good experience with AXO as I have. I'm still doing recruitment with AXO and I became a life long member 29 years ago!

There are LOTS of people thinking about rushing DG whenever they show up (the date has changed a couple times - it could be next fall, it could be not until fall 2012) so I would counsel you to not rely on that option too heavily. It's going to be every bit as cutthroat, if not more, than regular formal recruitment.
Also, Sigma Delta Tau did not do rush with the other Panhellenic sororities. They are a historically Jewish sorority and quite a bit smaller than the other NPC groups.
There are also service and professional sororities on campus.
And there's always waiting until next year and redoing NPC formal rush.

I came in to say this.
There's not even a set time for DG to come on at this time (I have heard Fall 2011 and Fall 2012 so who knows).
DG is very highly anticipated. I have heard of women planning to transfer into Bama to specifically have a chance to be part of the colony.
I would definitely recommend checking it out when they do show up if she is not Greek at that point, but it's not going to be an easy process.
