There's a guy on oxygen in my neighborhood who runs his dog from a golf cart. Good lookin' chocolate lab. Those dogs need exercise to stay healthy. Mine runs 2 miles per day from the bike. Got her from a shelter, a lab mix, had been in a pen most of her life, never developed her muscles. She's come a long way.

how long did it take you to get her to that point? i tried taking my dog on one of my runs, but she gave up after like 3/4 of a mile.

I did an hour of Barre class (this equals 30 minutes of exercises on the ballet bar and 30 minutes of pilates matwork).

By "run," I mean we go as fast as she's able. We'll start off at about 12MPH, slow to about 9.5MPH for a half mile, then we average around 7.5 for the remaining 1.5. It's not very good exercise for me, but we do crate during the day, so the lab in her needs to do something.

As far as getting to where she is, it's been a process. We started taking walks where I insisted she stay beside or behind me and on one side of me the whole time. She pretty much just does that now. I've taken her on actual walks of over 10 miles--we live next to a city lake with a 10 mile bike/foot trail around it.

Lately though, with this heat, I'm only able to take her out really early in the morning. Don't want a heat stroke or anything like that.
