I know that I am only echoing the other Greeks who have answered your post, but your question is very, very important and it definitely warrants responses from all of us who have been in your place.

When I rushed, there were 12 NPC organizations on my campus and right off the bat I turned a blind eye to 10 of them. Why? Because I was absolutely convinced that my four years of college would be a complete waste of time (socially, anyway) if I wasn't a Chi Omega or a Delta Zeta.

Everyone knew that that's where the pretty, popular girls went. They got the best mixers with the hottie fraternities. And to my 18 year-old mind, that was SO important!

Well, at the end of the road, Delta Zeta and I mutually chose each other. I was extremely lucky that, despite my closed mind during rush, I ended up in a place that I could call home. A place with the best sisters a girl could want. A place where I was comfortable but where I was also encouraged to grow as a person.

But I also missed out, I think. Looking back, I can see that I was very lucky that my singlemindedness let to a perfect fit. Because I can tell you that most of the girls who pledged a house based on popularity and reputation ended up miserable!

Throughout my years at college, I met, worked with and befriended women from the other sororities that I had turned my nose up at and I ended up feeling ashamed. A lot of them were WONDERFUL ladies with incredible bonds with their sisters. But I initially passed up the opportunity to know these women better because I had tunnel vision.

Please go into rush with an open mind and look at the sisters you meet as individual people. Remember that there is so much more to being in a GLO than wearing your letters around campus and going to mixers!

Sorry this is so longwinded! Good luck to you!
