Where I go to school, the town puts on a lot of street cleans and things of that sort, so get in touch with the board or mayor of the town or city where you go to school and see if they have anything set up.

Also, someone above mentioned Habitat for Humanity and that's a really great way to do community service. On their website, you can search for local centers and if you get in contact with them, they'll let you know when they're working on a site.
