A sandal, but really, could be any shoe within reach. A flying chancla is to be expected by (Latino) children of any age when they do or say something really, really stupid. I highly encourage mothers of all backgrounds to use it when necessary!

You know it! The chancla is worse than the belt. With the belt, you know you're going to get smacked in the behind. With the chancla, you might lose an eye if you're not agile!

But back to OP: Even if she is angry, you would think she would have thought twice about publishing a piece like this given that so many of her family members are in the sorority she wanted to be part of. Did she not think about offending them, and/or embarrassing them?
