Wink

I see that this thread is 10 years old but still relevant so I decided to put my reason why I find Delta Sigma Theta as the only way….

The Introduction: The first time I ever heard of Delta Sigma Theta was in 5th grade. My teacher Mrs. Exum was my FAVORITE teacher and she was this beautiful, black, funny person who just loved us. Summer rolled around and I noticed her heels were HIGH! She was jokingly showing them off and I saw a elephant tatted on her right leg above her ankle. First thought-Why an elephant? So I asked and she told me for her sorority Delta Sigma Theta.

Middle School: Delta Gems! I was MAD because I wasn’t apart of it. I just KNEW it had to do with Delta Sigma Theta and I wanted to be one because Mrs. Exum was. But I saw Delta’s who to me were/are the woman I wanted to be. They were pretty in jeans and sneaks or skirts and heels. They could be on model status and then get down and dirty with the guys. They were that ‘perfect package’ and reminded me of that song ‘I’m Every Woman.’ They are!!

College: I go to a school with no fraternities or sororites because it’s a Christian school BUT I always researched the sororities.(Even more now because I'm transferring to a HBCU!!) I wanted to know about what makes them different and what makes people join them. What are they based on and what is the point of joining at all? I had a lot of questions and they were answered by the National website and a grad student who transferred to my school (Liberty University) from Howard. I talked to her and she answered my questions and told me to continue to research even though I was sure. It was a lifetime commitment she said.

DST is incomparable. The 22 founders had a vision and went for it. The success rate of their vision is grand. To uplift community and to take pride in that success is beauty to me! I live in Richmond,VA and I see a lot of Delta women in the community doing what your 22 founders started. For that to last for 97 years is inspiring!!

I even had my mother look into the sorority because she didn’t understand why I wanted to ‘get my ass whooped’. (That WAS her only perception of sororities and fraternities.) Once she looked at the site and the information (she never went to college but she shouldve because my mother will read the fine print on a cereal box!) she understood. And I through in some you tube video’s to get her hype like I.

So much more but I’ll stop here. It’s long enough.
