I don't care how they won, the fact of the matter is they won. As a step team priority one is to make sure your show is tight that it will overcome gimmicks. Everybody who has stepped in a show knows that you gonna run into a gimmick that is more flash than substance. (Like I saw somebody post earlier about their show being so 90's because it was technical. I mean we are stepping not auditioning for America's next dance crew) Your job as a team is to prep. Does that mean you still might lose to the gimmick? Yeah, it happens. Just grin and bear it and be thankful that your show was crisp.

Hey...watch it. I'm a 90's stepper and IMO we stepped better back then...more precision, less hype, less theatrics, just stepping non-stop. Yeah, bring back 90's stepping and I might start going to more stepshows.

Exactly what I'm talking about. What I saw ZTA do (though not as precise) was take it back there. Yeah the gimmick was old, but guess what they hit the mark. And that's all they needed to do because they had the other gimmick going for them. As a step team you gotta plan for that.
It's like when Jordan played, he never got the fouls...and the person covering him knew that as well, so you gotta adjust.
I'm a 90's stepper as well and I can't wait till we get back to stepping again.

Yeah that is the point I am making. I'm not trying to start any beef on the net so I apologize if I quoted you out of context.
I still stand by though that as plain as the ZTA show was (done and overdone like we both said done in the 90's) it was up to the others to step up.

OMG...Stop!!! How about we had an intro to that? It was 1994 or 1995 I believe. We had these sequence (sp.?) vests with the colors of all the D9 orgs to show Unity; couldn't believe we found those, got them at Macy's. We won too (won the year before too but...don't wanna brag) . LOL!!!

That's really really really cool.
And if a team seemingly mechanically copied that show (and others) from 1994 or 1995 and performed it they'd get a WOMP WOMP for creativity and a WOMP WOMP for their inability to take the old and make it new.

a serious WOMP WOMP...LOL! And I remember this show really well now. It was 1994 and myself and the other stepmistress made up brand new steps (mostly the same beats) for almost our entire show because we were sick of doing the same one and decided that we needed to do something entirely different that those around us hadn't seen. We would spend HOURS trying to be creative and come up with new moves. Those were the good ole days.
And we wouldn't dare do another org's steps and NEVER did FULL tributes. For example, an Alpha on our campus passed away and we put a small part of an Alpha step at the end of our final step in a show to salute him and the Alphas went off because we weren't big on tributes at my school. We had a theme and that was it. People did their steps non-stop. It's not llike now where you see a show and say to yourself or your soror..." Isn't that one of our steps?" LMMFAO!!!!
