Haha! Yeah, I know. I'm from one. Maybe "freestanding" in the way that they're not directly based on one campus. But obviously not "freestanding" in the way, the OP meant it.

Are you talking about city-wide chapters (which are common in large urban centers like NYC)?

There is no such thing as a freestanding chapter, whether it is collegiate or graduate. Every collegiate chapter is affiliated with and supported by the national organization, regional/district branch, and local graduate chapter.
