Years ago in Ireland (Dublin really) and then England, women were known as birds. Young women then became known as chicks. New Flight Attendants on Aer Lingus were called chicks too.
Bird never really made it across the Atlantic, but chick surely has.

BTW, I just spent a long time looking at the great photos on that website in your signature. Cool then and now photos. I also liked seeing the Order of Diana stuff.
