I was talking about my own org, thus the  . We've had women serve on the National Board who are both minorities in terms of United States ethnic demographics and minorities in terms of proportional demographics within the sorority.
I wouldn't say we "count" in the discussion because the diversity of our National Board is by design and not in line with the purpose of the discussion topic.

i interpreted her statement that she was dedicated to and interested in helping the underprivileged and such...and african americans are consistently in that group. so it didn't sound like a shift of focus to me.

What I mean is the shift from admiring someone to taking up that person's cause. It takes a lot more effort and usually requires sacrifice.

Anyone in a position of privilege (whether race, class, gender, etc.) needs to at a minimum be making an honest attempt to see the world from the other perspective and reflecting that consciousness in their lives. That is simple morality (and morality usually does require effort and sacrifice).
