We know several families who were stationed there for 3 year tours. They all had positive experiences and took advantage of their location to explore the Pacific Rim and Asia for vacations. Someone's child was diagnosed with a condition which necessitated treatment at Tripler in Hawaii but there were enough scheduled flights that it wasn't that difficult. These families were all active-duty so your experience might be different.
