The thing is you can find well constructed shoes for less than 600 of course. Personally, I hate cheap shoes for this very reason. They hurt my feet, poorly made and fall apart.

And I've also noticed that some of my shoes that cost $600+ hurt like hell and less expensive shoes feel WAY better.
