				Greek orgs and Religion

I was wondering if anyone else catches a lot of flack for being Christian and being in a sorority. My minister makes constant references to the fact that being in a greek organization can't being you salvation. Many people who know I am greek make snide remarks and question how I can be greek and be a Christian woman. They claim that greek orgs worship the organization and the founders instead of God. I know some people who turned their backs on their greek org when they became saved. If you have faced this, how did you handle it? What was your response?

No one has ever said anything to me about being Greek and Christian. One reason could be because most people at my church are Greek(Deltas actually) and my last two Pastors were Alphas.

I do not see where the two things are related. Nothing will change my relationship with Christ, especially a Greek-letter organization. These supposedly saved people are simply ignorant and are using God as an excuse to not commit to their organizations. I mean, my sorority is founded and based on Christian principles, so how can the two conflict?

The church I used to go to had some negative things to say about Greek Life (just because most of the congregation consisted of students).

I feel like being Greek only affects your relationship with God if YOU let it. If you choose to make your sorority a idol in your life and place it before God, then of course it will affect that.

There are *some posters* on GC that are on a mission to destroy Greek organizations for this reason. For the most part, when someone confronts me about my Sorority membership and my devotion to the Lord, they do so by prooftexting and letting me know that having a patron goddess is idol worship. The fact that my Sorority doesn't have a patron goddess doesn't seem to faze them. But, regardless, I have no problem with those that do. It's part of tradition and not part of active worship.

On founders, there is a big difference between deep reverence/respect and worship.
