I found a quatrefoil in the most amazing place - framing an ancestor's tintype! It's in one of those folding boxes that men carried with him to battles during the War Between the States, and we're trying to nail down exactly which ancestor it is. We have it narrowed down to two - but we've decided to take it to a photo restoration place to see if there are marks behind it. We do not, however, want the frame to be destroyed. What amazes me is that she has to be either my g-great-grandmother on either the Union OR the Confederate side! Either way, her husband served with honor during the War. And, her granddaughter (or -in-law) would be the grandmother I most resemble.
