My sorority's house used to be owned by a different sorority. It's rumored that while they lived here, one of their members hung herself on one of the sleeping porches. I found this out half way through last year...after I had been sleeping there for a few months. Weird things happen sometimes, but nothing too strange.

I've never heard that one. Easy to confirm through the Argonaut or Special Collections at the Library though, much like Sarah Heath Palin not being in a sorority. I know a few Thetas, if it doesn't seem awkward I'll ask one.

I think there's two or three haunted at our campus (tri-delt, I think)?

I lived in the house - it's not true. It's just a 111 year old house that creeks. Besides, we bout the house from her grandson...meaning she couldn't have died in the house.
However, it is a fun story to tell. We used it as our theme for Sig Ep's Haunted house my junior year. I played the part of Susie and it was so much fun.

Why couldn't she have died in the house if you bought it from her grandson?

I think the legend is that she was jilted at the altar and then killed herself.
So, it would be unlikely that she had grandchildren.
ETA: the legend as I heard it was that Susie was jilted at the altar and committed suicide. But other than some light flickering and door shutting, her spirit was benevolent. She looked over the room called the Engagement Suite, and each year one girl who lived in that room became engaged.

Ahhh I see. I didn't know the legend, so buying the house from the grandson seems completely plausible to me.

Well, it is after all a whole lot more plausible than the ghost, really.
But it was/is a cool tradition or legend.

The legend was that she hung herself in the attic after being left at the altar.
I did some research last year and someone did actually get married in the house. I think it was her but it may have been the daughter of the 2nd owner. Anyway...

My sorority house is haunted.....
Im an AXO and my sorority house on campus is haunted. A SN hung himself in our basement about 40 years ago because he was dating an Alpha Chi and she broke up with him. His ghost still hangs around and bangs on our chapter room door all the time and makes noises in the boiler room and stuff. I've heard some pretty crazy stories involvong him.

My chapter's house (Delta Upsilon at Iowa State) is haunted by the ghost of a brother who committed suicide during the summer of '69. His name is Lawrence B. Skold and he loves to pull pranks on the brothers. His main prank involves the boiler room and the kitchen in the basement. He will turn on the light and open the door of the boiler room every now and then when someone is in the kitchen.

There were 2 bedrooms in my house that people who lived there claimed were haunted. One sister saw the figure of a woman standing in front of the beds one day, and things used to fly off their walls, stuff like that. Then there was some story that when the house was renovated, the basement floor was ripped out and dug up (to get to the foundation maybe?) and when the workers returned the next day, there was a hole dug in the floor of the bathroom downstairs and then filled back in with dirt that looked like a grave. I doubt there was a body found in there or Im sure that would have been part of the story, but it wasnt. They called the bathroom "the grave room". Anyway, I remember being creeped out in the kitchen a few times, feeling like someone was watching me, and tried not to go down there by myself at night.
Rumor has it that there is at least one spirit lurking in the KD house at Maryland. Some KD's I knew said weird things used to happen in the room up inside the turret of the house. I always LOVED that house................beautiful!

"Start with a trip to the Alpha Omicron Pi House. The Ohio State Michigan tradition dates back years, and students used to jump into Mirror Lake as part of their celebration. One sorority girl jumped into the Lake drunk, and broke her neck. The sisters decided to hide the dying girl in their room, rather than risk getting in trouble. The girl still haunts the room where she died by moving things around, sitting on the bed, and opening the closet doors. "

The ghosts name is Mary Ellen. There is a somewhat hidden bookshelf that still has books in it with her name on it dating back to wayyyyyy long ago. It is quite creepy..
oh, and students still jump in mirror lake. I'll be doing it in a few weeks
