In Texas, yes, you can be turned away at the polls if you are wearing a particular candidate's paraphenalia (i.e., buttons, stickers, T-shirts, etc). Before law school, I worked on a city council campaign and work my candidate's t-shirt to a poll. I was asked to cover the shirt up before I was able to cast my vote.

Good debate!

I'll be watching next week's debate between Biden and Palin. This should be INTERESTING...plus Gwen is moderating.

Did anyone else notice the complete lack of respect by John McCain? He completely DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT OBAMA! In addition, what is with the old white man condescending "He doesn't understand" ...b/c he is too stupid......

And Obama...stop saying, "I give McCain credit...."

/\/\/\ I watched the debates on ABC and that was the FIRST thing Charlie G. and George S. said when the debate was over! They said that unlike McCain who just stared at the moderator, Obama was very engaging, both with McCain and to the audience/camera.

My stepdad and I just talked about this a few minutes ago. And there were times when McStiff spoke and Obama was like "I got your number!"

And I think Obama wanted to show respect of McCain's service by giving him credit, but at the same time showing the American public that what he's been doing hasn't worked.

The pundits are saying that there is not a clear winner. But the undecided viewers who were polled for CNN and CBS both say that Obama won.

McCain absolutely HATES Obama with every fiber of his being! If he could stand on the capital steps at high noon and give Obama a piece of his feeble mind he would....

Overall, I thought Obama won the day. McCain could barely contain himself while Obama was as cool as a cucumber without being cold. McCain did put Obama on the offensive early on but Obama rose to the challenge and used McCain's own words and record against him. Obama demonstrated his thoughtfulness and planning whereas McCain continued to show that he shoots from the hip; frankly, I am not sure how being a maverick can be a good thing! McCain did close slightly stronger, though, however, I believe that Obama won the day overall.

Its funny that all of the polls that I have seen of VOTERS show that Obama has won but the pundits are split!

Will the VP Debate occur? I'm thinking that "something" is going to happen where Palin has to pull out.

If it goes on, I'm sure Biden will rip her up!

I think something will go wrong with Trigger (the baby with DS) or some other great family emergency so that she can pull out of the debate. I mean if she can't take on Katie Couric then she has no chance at Joe Biden. I'm thinking that she must be playing dumb so that voters will have low expectations of her and when she debates and seems to know a little bit people will be impressed. I think this will work for decided Republican voters, but for everyone else...not so much.

I know the pundits are all split as to who won the debate, but am I the only one who heard John McBush say:

"By the way, North Korea, most repressive and brutal regime probably on Earth. The average South Korean is three inches taller than the average North Korean, a huge gulag."

After talking to different people to try to understand this comment I am assuming that what he meant by the height difference is that the more developed the nation is and the better off the people are the taller they are on average and S.Koreans are 3 inches taller than N.Koreans so N.Korea is therefore greatly oppressive. This is a huge streach for me. Considering the fact that the question was: "Senator McCain, what is your reading on the threat of Iran right now to the security of the United States?" this really made NO sense.

The height difference many be true but it most likely is not related to the regime change which only happened after WWII. Evolutionary changes take time to develop; something so dramatic is not llikey to have happened in the short span of 2 generations.

If anyone has some research or background on this phenomenon, I would love to hear it.

So does anyone know what he meant by this?

Anyone who thinks that McCain won the debate was clearly fooled by his twisting of every comment made and flat out lying. I've never seen someone get so far off topic during a debate. This wasn't even a debate this was Obama presenting his platform and plan for presidency and correcting the confusing accusations and lies McCain spewed.

EX: Obama's comment about pre-conditions. Kissinger did say that he would support talks without pre-conditions which was Obama's point. McBush tried to make it appear that Obama said Kissinger agreed with direct diplomacy. Obama never said it.

I am of two minds about this debate.

Either I will emerge from the debate dumber for having listened to Sarah Palin for an hour and a half,

Or great hilarity will ensue.

Expectations are so low for her, just showing up will guarantee her at least a tie! I did see an interview that she did with Charlie Rose last year where she actually appeared coherent, witty and funny.

I think the chick is currently on uppers or something. She is just too cheery and glassy-eyed yet she looks tired in still photos.

The VP debate is scheduled for this Thursday at 9 pm. I think it will be quick and painless for Sen. Biden, but long and extremely painful to Gov. Palin. This will either make or break McCain's chances.

i wouldn't be surprised if the mccan't team tried to delay the VP debate due to the ongoing financial crisis. last i saw, the Dow was down 738 pts. that to me says team mccan't will try for another "campaign suspension"
