My thoughts...
I don't think your pledge process makes you an XYZ...for me, I think Deltas are born and not made. You either have it or you don't. If you have the character, etc. that meets the criteria for becoming a Delta, then you "are" a Delta, even it you don't pledge. The pledge process gives you the knowledge you need and the right (after you cross) to actually say you are a Delta.
