Day 3: Sisterhood and Values Nightc

I got invited back to four houses with a full schedule, one of my top cut me though.

I am Sam- I was surprised to see this house back on my schedule because I had ranked them last, but I wasn’t too upset because they girls were sweet and I had had a great time with them. My dress actually matched the decorations in the room. I talked to a girl really involved with the philanthropy for personal reasons and she told me all about why her sorority was the one for her. It was sweet and touching, but then she dropped a bombshell on me. I was telling her about how it was nerve-wrecking going into the houses because I didn’t know what values they were evaluating me on and she told me her sorority values. She said right now on all of them I’d rate you a 5 but we aren’t supposed to give out 5’s unless we give a detailed reason why. I felt like I was being guilt tripped no matter how nice she was and was trying to be.

Pulp Fiction- I was so mad when I saw them on my list, but I thought about what everyone had been saying and just went in with an open mind. The room theme was cute and lots of girls understood it well and the girls were extremely amiable this night. I met the pledge mom and her little etc. The video they showed me was awesome, but even though they do well academically they seemed repulsed that I asked so much about study hours etc. I liked them anyway though just because the conversation was wonderful.

Now and Then- Coming back to this house was something I had been looking forward to never having a bad or awkward night there before. The room was set up so cute and the girl I talked to was sweet. We talked about the sorority a little, but we also talked about traveling, which I don’t get to do but want to do, and our family a lot. I love talking about my family because I’m really close to them and she seemed to be close to hers as well, that was a good thing. She talked about how close her and her sisters are and that they truly have become her family away from home.

Stepford Wives- If this house would’ve dropped me I would’ve cried…seriously. (I’m writing this later than everything happened so forgive me) I had already formed some weird sort of bond with the sorority, the philanthropy, and everything. The girls were so friendly again…I can’t imagine any of them being mean. All of my questions were answered with a smile and I was looked in the eye which made me feel respected. The girls shared stories about why their sisterhood meant so much to them and a few of them made me tear up. I talked to the girls about everything, down to what my favorite food was and candy was because, according to the sister I was talking to, to be in this sorority you have to love food; and I do! :]

Ranking:
Stepford Wives
Now and Then
Pulp Fiction
I am Sam

it sounds like you are having a great recruitment and good for you in keeping an open mind! I also, like your comments on why you like certain houses ie. looked you straight in the eye etc. I do think that is helpful for PNMs as well as chapter members. It's a win win!

I look forward to heaing more from you!

Whoa, sounds like a little TMI there on that girl's part.

Yikes! In my chapter, we would have gotten in a ton of trouble for telling a PNM something like that! I understand how that might make you feel guilty!! Plus, isn't that starting to stray into Membership Selection territory, or is that just my opinion??

Good luck, OMGreek!! You sound like you have a wonderful attitude, and from what I've read, you will be an asset to whichever sorority you choose! I can't wait to hear where you end up!!
