I just recently went through a similar situation. I wanted to be an AKA period, not just belong to a sorority or wear colors, or step, etc. I wanted to be an AKA or nothing else. In 1999 when I transferred from a 2yr college after graduating to a 4yr college to finish my BSN., the school I transferred to did not have a chapter. So that year (My junior year) the AKAs spent getting chartered and recognized on campus. Ok so im thinking they'll take in new members eventually right? WRONG! They did not take in new members until after my senior year. I had graduated already. So on to grad chapter. Well it has been a 3-year process, long hours and lots of prayer and much love and support from within the chapter and FINALLY I CROSSED INTO AKA LAND ON FEBRUARY 10TH 2002 IN CINCINNATI OHIO, SIGMA OMEGA CHAPTER. My point is being in a sorority is not about colors or just being in a group. it is deeper than that. You have to believe in your soul that this is THE ONLY ORGANIZATION FOR YOU and if you don't, if all you want to do is wear any colors than you should really think about if being in a sorority is for you. If I couldn't be an AKA, I would not be anything else.
