Oh yes! My sister is a Theta and they are fabulous!!

Yeah for Auburn moms

Yeah!! I am excited your daughters have parties to go to! One of the auburn moms asked if there are more cuts before pref day and the answer unfortunately is yes. Traditionally after skit day it is a heavy cut. some sororities this is the day they make their "legacy" cut. depending on what quota is (typicallly for Auburn it is around 55-60) Sororities will invite 2 to 3 times the amount of quota to pref. So that means for sorority xyz, a total of around 150 girls will be invited to pref, and they can extend around 55 bids. Hope that makes sense- hang in there, keep up the positive smiles, believe it or not, lots of girls quit here....tell them to hang in, its almost over!!

I'm not sure, but I believe this may not be the case any longer if the new release figure methods are being utilized. School me if I'm wrong, people in the thick of this.

you are correct. with the new release figures method, more "popular" groups will need fewer PNMs at preference in order to make quota and so may not have the traditional 3x quota at preference nor have been allowed to issue as many invitations as before.

not sure about this at auburn. I know of one very large sorority at auburn that would invite 3x quota; because that was their national policy, not the auburn policy. Nationally they were a smaller sorority, but at Auburn they were a large sorority. Tell your daughters to look around at pref, and if it is "standing room only" and barely an empty chair-that means they did invite 3x quota. If it is a normal size amount of girls ar pref- they probably invited 2x quota; and if it is skimpy....that means that sorority probably won't pledge quota, so as long as a girl doesn't suicide, she could probably get a bid from them!

Again, this may not be the case if the new release figure methods are being used. The room might be "skimpy" because there's a 99.999% chance that every girl there will put that sorority first on her list.

pref parties

I think I read on the website that the sororities are having 4 parties to keep the numbers at the parties down, but the pnms can only go to three. I could be wrong. If a sorority is having problems with numbers would they just go to three parties, instead of the fourth one? That way you wouldnt necessarily know based on the number at the party.

Is this post RFM? If they are large at Auburn, the campus Panhellenic will force a "popular" chapter to make more cuts. The campus Panhellenic rules will trump a "National policy" (thought I really don't think there would be a National policy, unless you are speaking of recruitment pre-release figure method).

With the RFM, the opposite is true. Chapters with high return rates may invite as few as 1.5 x projected quota, because historically, a good amount of the PNMs that they invite put them first. Chapters with lower return rates will have larger parties, 3 x projected quota or even more, because fewer PNMs will rank them, so they need a larger pool to make quota.

In either event, I think it is bad advice to tell your daughter to look at how many girls are at pref, thinking about quota, etc. They should worry about things they CAN control during recruitment week, like making a good impression, having good conversation skills, and being well-groomed.

Oh that is very informative. Thank you!

I just found out that legacies typically send gifts to the house during the week as they are making their decisions...gift cards, flowers, food...I had no idea!

I don't think the legacies typically send gifts. Their alumnae mothers / sisters / grandmas / whatever might.

It wasn't typical at Kentucky. Some alums would send flowers / balloons / snacks for the members during work week and rush week, but I never saw the alleged "Remember Suzy Rushee" cheesecake.

Oh, but we did.

I will never forget opening one of those large tins of popcorn only to find Suzy Rushee's HUGE face smiling back at me... they had blown the photo up to a circle the size of the tin. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

There were also the ever-present Cookie Co cookies that would have a rushee's name and hometown.

This was rush in Texas before the days of no-frills and gifts to the chapter being rush infractions. Back then certain alumnae chapters really went overboard with promoting the girls from their area.

Obnoxious? Yep. But the food sure was good. I didn't hear a single person complain.

At least as my school way back when, if a legacy that was going through rush sent a gift to a house, it was considered a rush infraction.

Alumnae would send things, but not legacies
