In high school, I was looking into joining the NAACP. I was in a predominantly Caucasian area, (like all my life) and I was just trying to become more helping and conscious of "my people"
I was doing so much community service that my head spun and kept my grades up, up, up (all in the face of racism and adversity), you know, and I just wanted to join something that I thought would be complementary (did that sound right, please let me know) to me and the few other Blacks in the school (not like they cared).
Now someone got back to me at the end of my senior year (I requested membership, like in my sophomore year, mind you), and tells me I have to pay like $2,600!!!! Yes sir. For membership. I was like
