Hello Soror,
I don't have any tips for you, having never been to France. However, I just wanted to say that the opportunity is magnificent and to enjoy it!!! Relish in it and don't listen to naysayers and those who are so cautious and scared themselves about every freaking thing that they rain on every parade.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!! What an opportunity.

ETA: Actually, Soror, I saw your question asking if they take Visa everywhere. Again, I've never been to France; however, Visa is actually the credit card of choice worldwide (as opposed to Mastercard, Discover or American Express). When I went to Costa Rica last year, I discovered this as all of the banks primarily only took Visa - which caused me alot of pain b/c my debit card and credit card both carry the Mastercard symbols. So you should be good with the Visa card!!!

Very long time no chat, but I am checking in with specific questions!

My job (consultant) is placing me with a client in Paris. I would be working there for three months.

I am beyond excited about this, but also PETRIFIED. I am one of the few who never did a semester abroad in college. I took french for nine years, but haven't spoken it in damn near a decade!

Has anyone here worked abroad (in Paris or other locations outside the US) before? How was it? Was there a lot of antipathy towards you as an American? As a black woman? Do you have any tips or insights as to how to handle yourself? Any tips on getting an IT setup- cell? laptop? Luckily I don't have to worry about finding an apartment because the company is providing one! Do they accept Visa everywhere? I don't know what I'd do without my debit card!

Any input is much appreciated! If you don't want to post here, you can email me at lovelyivy at mac . com

Au Revoir!

LOL! You would be set, too. The Frenchmen loooooooove the black women. I never saw so many white male/black female pairings. All age combinations, everything. The black men in Paris are faw-ine as well.

I was in Paris last year, and yeah--you can definitely use Visa anywhere. Even American Express, too, since it's a major city. There are HSBC and Citibank ATMS around town as well.

This is such a cool experience. I would give anything to be back in Paris again.
