As for the rest, there are others who have "past antics" who seem to get
matters into the news and many times even further. And we have threads on those also in News and Politics.

And while we can have all sorts of debates about "the messenger", I think we need to hold on and wait to see what if anything happens. Per news stories, seems to be at least one Federal probe going on already in County.
And if it was nothing, I guess it was a rather slow news day today for it to even make the papers

Of course it made the news - you cited to three Texas papers, and one other outlet where it was listed as an AP story (which, I'm guessing, is how you saw it in your local paper). If a big event happens, and a Congressman speaks out on it, the AP is going to cover it no matter what.

I don't think that her comments, or the weight of them, has anything to do with the coverage.
