That explains things alot. I always found her answers to the "Why aren't your parents on the show?" question to be a little weird, like she was hiding something. It was never just like "Oh they live far away." or "We don't talk much." That's pretty normal. It's always something like "It's just better off at this point in time for them to not be around." That leads people to believe that there's something going on with them.
Sidenote: I loved seeing their home videos. I'll say it again, John and Kate were totally hot before they had kids.

Jon's story is more believeable -- my mom works a lot.
Kate's dad's face was even blurred out in the wedding video.

Her dad's face might be blurred in the wedding video because (if I remember my TCOM Law & Regs correctly- but it's been 16 yrs since that class) he would have to sign off on having his image shown on TV (since it is not a news/sports program and he would not be an incidental background person). So her parents might not want to be on TV and therefor they legally have to blur out his face.
As for the blog, wow, I think I need to go bleach my brain after reading some of that.
I still love the show and I don't care how many freebies they get.

Oh, I wasn't even thinking that. I was thinking more along the lines of "I'm ashamed of family and I don't want anyone to know how they look like."
I just saw Jon's hair transplant episode and it made me think of the HAIR TRANSPLANTS ARE THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE! thread. I laughed at Kevin's "the things you do for your sister!" remark.
I don't care about how many freebies they get, either. If someone offered me free stuff, I'd take it in a heartbeat...and I know many of you would, too.

I can't blame them at all. I'd take free stuff in an instant.
When the McCaughey's had the septuplets years ago, they got all kinds of free stuff including a house!

Honestly, they'd better take all the freebies they can get. Can you imagine what it will cost them to send all of their kids to college?

^^ According to the blog OTW posted, they have college savings accounts or something set up, but still... People were up in arms about that. Seriously, would you rather these 8 kids go to college from college funds set up based on donations or end up deadbeats with no future (which would cost taxpayers more in the long run).
And as a mom to 3 kids, I would love for someone (anyone??) to come and help me with my laundry and fold clothes. And I don't think I have EVER ironed any of my kids clothes. I don't have time! I can only imagine the amount of laundry 10 people produce!

Jealousy blogs
Here's an idea - if you don't like Jon and Kate, DON'T WATCH THE SHOW. Seriously, how much time and energy have these people spent working up a good head of steam towards hating Jon and Kate? Get a life, folks!

I'm not a regular watcher of the show, but let me put in my vote that the show should continue until the kids go off to college. Can you imagine high school dating/prom in this family? How about college visits?

In an episode last season, Kate couldn't believe at the number of phone calls the twins were getting at age 7. Jon said, "at least it wasn't a boy..."
I may get flamed for saying this, but I wouldn't be surprised if Joel is gay when he gets older.
