Ruiz said the victim reported the incident three days later, after he felt betrayed that his fraternity sided against him by allowing the pledges involved to become members.
So, the active involved did not immediately report the incident. He waited 3 days, and only reported it to get back at the other actives for making a decision to initiate the pledges who had "kidnapped" him.

This just seems really odd. I have heard of guys who depledged being shamed out of a school for not sticking it out - much less telling Greek Life about things that happened during pledgeship. That an active would rat out his own house to the police seems inconceivable. Can he possibly have known the consequences of going to the police?

I wonder if he is planning on staying at that school. Chances are he is on some people's s**t lists.

There is no way someone would be "shamed out of school" at SDSU for dropping out of/ratting on a fraternity (or sorority for that matter). Such a small percentage of the school is greek and for all the people who aren't greek there, they couldn't care less about it.

I will assume that this type of thing happens on campuses where over 50% of the school is greek. At SDSU only about 10-15% are greek, at most.

And BRAVO for the kid telling people about what happened. Being a member of a fraternity/sorority is not worth giving up your life....IMHO.

Agreed! Being put in a chokehold that makes you unconscious, having money taken, etc.! -- allegedly. Doesn't sound brotherly to me.

. . . putting him in a chokehold that knocked him unconscious, SDSU spokesman Jack Beresford said. They bound the man with duct tape, forced beer down his throat and drove him around for 45 minutes before dropping him off on Mission Gorge Road, Beresford said.

“The person kidnapped felt in fear for his life,” he said.

His wallet was taken, and money was missing when it was retrieved, Beresford said. The fraternity member contacted university police.
