Probably a bit of both. Audrina probably isn't someone who Lo might actively choose to be friends with if it weren't for Lauren and vice versa. Not that they can't be friendly, but wouldn't choose to be friends/roommates, KWIM?
I think it's hard when two people do have such a long history and close friendship as Lo and Lauren do for that third person to feel comfortable. There's going to be inside jokes and "hey remember when..." comments.
Even if all three are good friends, I think three is a difficult number to have as roommates. It seems someone is inevitably going to be left out. I'm sure plenty of people do make it work, but I think it's more difficult than when two people live together.
