I don't really see what the fraternity has to do with anything in all of this.

News flash: lots of people tell lots of stories to friends and acquaintances to paint themselves in the best possible light. While I'm sure that you've given an accurate picture as you understand it, I'm still willing to bet that there's another side to this story. Certainly, I'll never know exactly what happened as their relationship played out. Even you as a fairly intertwined observer won't be able to really know the absolute truth of what's transpired.
