Killer gets death for 2001 throat-slashing of Cal Poly student
POMONA, Calif. (AP) - A man convicted of raping and slashing the throat of a Cal Poly Pomona student has been sentenced to death.

James Winslow Dixon Jr., 35, was sentenced Thursday for the 2001 murder of Christina Burmeister and for two unrelated rapes that took place in 1996.

Out of curiosity, why did it take so long to move this through trial? They caught the guy in 2005, and according to a post on here, they decided to go for the death penalty in early 2006. He wasn't convicted until a couple weeks ago.
