Thanks
I won the scholarship from NAFEO (national association for equal opportunity in higher education). I had to write an essay and then present it and defend it. I'm one of four winners. Here is some info from thier website...
The Sallie Mae Fund and the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) have created the "Writers of Passage" Essay Competition. The partnership between The Sallie Mae Fund and NAFEO was established to focus national attention on the importance of developing good writing skills.
Winning students will receive a $5,000 scholarship for their compelling essays about how students at HBCUs or PBIs have established a rich tradition of promoting social justice and how they can flex their political muscle in the upcoming 2008 political season. In addition, the student's HBCU or PBI will receive a $20,000 grant for improving student outreach and writing enhancement initiatives.
Here is the topic we had to write about:
The 2008 presidential election offers another opportunity for HBCU students to maintain and enhance this tradition of making America a more perfect Union. The youth vote--voters 18-24 years old—is a vital part of the equation. What will you do during the 2008 election season to personally flex your political muscle and to engage others in the electoral process, and why is this important?
