When my cousin, the groom, got married for the second time, the entire families of both sides flew into the Mid Atlantic for the wedding. Everyone from out of town was invited to the rehearsal dinner (about 120 people). As we went through dinner, people from both sides got to know each other better.

Unfortunately, the best man was another cousin who is a very talented surgeon, but always at a loss for words (unless he is talking about curing prostate cancer). So, my aunt decided to make the toast. Blah, blah, blah, blah and blissful marriage to Greg and Marie. Marie was Greg's ex-wife.

All of us held our breath at that point. But Greg's new wife, Cathy, was as graceful as always. She smiled and gave a big kiss to my aunt. Lucky for all of us, the marriage is still strong 15 years later.

I just remembered something that happened when my oldest got married. Some of her best friends from camp (she was a counselor for years) were late. Turns out that they'd been trying to find their way through Alabama and made a wrong turn and ended up in a small town Christmas parade! All they could do was play it off and wave left and right at all the cheering kids lining the road.
