I have that blessing hanging up on my fridge.
My middle son's middle name is Patrick (does that make sense?) and this is the first year he has really been aware of St.. Patrick's day. We are going to bake soda bread and shamrock cookies for his saint's day

Ok so what's the deal on changing St. Patrick's Day this year? I read this:

"The date of the feast is occasionally moved by church authorities when March 17 falls during Holy Week; this last happened in 1940 when Saint Patrick's Day was observed on April 3rd in order to avoid it coinciding with Palm Sunday, and will happen again in 2008, when it shall be held on 15 March.[2]"
So, when are people celebrating?

We are celebrating on Saturday (March 15th) but mostly because it's the weekend and I'll have the time to make stuff.

We are having an outdoor movie party Saturday... first Waking Ned Devine, followed by the Committments.
anyone have any other great Irish movie suggestions for me?

I think they just mean the Catholics will celebrate Mass and the feast on the 15th. Doing it the day after Palm Sunday makes too busy of a week for them.

Wife is having surgery on the 17th. I wonder if they'll have Guinness at the hospital...
Our last evening in Dublin a couple years ago, we had a special tour and dinner at the Guinness Brewery, and some beer in the bar on the top floor. It's the tallest building in Dublin. Beautiful.
Mrs. DA and I have a picture of ourselves with a similar background as the picture above. I'd go back to Ireland in a heartbeat.

 I believe this is the view you mentioned - here's my daughter Gypsyboots at St.James' Gate - the Guinness Mothership!

That is the place, indeed.
We stayed at Sheen Falls Lodge in County Kerry for a while, shown here:
We had most of this view out of the window of our suite -- If you look very closely, there a beautiful stone bridge in the background:
Then we spent three days in Dublin less than a block from Trinity College.
It is made up of three former financial buildings, and is in a beautiful location within walking distance of a lot of stuff.

I think it's a poor excuse for people to "celebrate" a saint and go out and get wasted. Most people don't even know anything about St. Patrick.
Plus I'm a little bitter that people just brush off Columbus Day. Let us dagos have a special day!
