I wasn't trying to imply that it was okay, just giving the little background info I knew. Strangely enough, my chapter was a local before becoming Alpha Phi at URI. They were Kappa Delta Theta. I wonder which group they wanted to go with? haha Two groups only presented, and either was Kappa Alpha Theta. Granted, the local had their own symbols etc, but still a little weird. Maybe it's just a URI thing. I joined after we became a colony, so I don't know too much about what the founders were thinking.

If they didn't rip off every symbol of Kappa Alpha Theta, maybe that's not what they were thinking (that they wanted to be KATs).

I know you said you joined after the group became a colony so you wouldn't know for sure, but really, there are only so many greek letter combinations.

There was a local interest group on my first campus whose name was Delta Lambda. They had their own colors/mascot/symbols etc, and none of them were even remotely close to Delta Gamma. Someone might say "They are DG posers because their name is two greek letters and the first one is Delta!!!" but really, they picked letters that worked for them, and their own symbols and they did have interest in joining an NPC, but they didn't single out one...they waited for the campus to open up for expansion and looked at the three that presented.

It's one thing if the names are sort of similar minus one letter but they have their own symbols/mascot/etc; but quite another when the letters are extremely close, and the colors are the same, the mascot & symbols and even philanthropies are the same.

Yup, I agree. There are only so many Greek letters. I assumed Alpha Sigma at UW-W was the remnants of our chapter that was once there (their colors were the same as ours) until I was informed that it was a local that had actually been around LONGER than ASA had.

And then there was the group of (extremely white) guys in the 1950 Clarion yearbook who founded a local fraternity called Alpha Phi Alpha.
