I started doing this again last night, to catch my possible inaccuracies, and then realized why we have some different numbers: colonizations/closings. XYZ may have closed 5 chapters but are colonizing at 10 other colleges. So, if irishpipes' list doesn't reflect these changes, most of us will get different answers.

I think it's fair to say that, if the numbers are within 5, all's well. Irishpipes didn't put long hours into that list for any reason but the current Recruitment year, and we're just using it for the database which is otherwise unavailable to us. Massive kudos to irishpipes, and let's realize that there will be the small differences.

But if we are ALL using Irishpipes' list, then shouldn't our numbers still be the same? I mean we all are looking at the same list.

Like I looked at all the universities (in U.S. and Canada) that had active Alpha Phi chapters. Shouldn't my list correspond w/ everyone else if they were looking at universities w/ active chapters of their universities?

IDK (...my bff Jill? lol) how everyone is getting different numbers! lol

All by myself...

I'm finding this thread really interesting and hoping that members of the rest of the NPCs will post their numbers.

Meanwhile, I started to get curious about how many NPCs are the only one on their campus. Of course, they may be competing with locals, but I was surprised to find that there are actually 81 places where this is the case.

The winner for facing it alone on campus is:

Phi Sigma Sigma with 13 chapters.

The rest place as follows:

Theta Phi Alpha - 10
Delta Phi Epsilon - 9
Alpha Sigma Tau - 6
Delta Zeta - 6
Sigma Sigma Sigma - 6
Alpha Epsilon Phi - 5
Alpha Gamma Delta - 3
Alpha Sigma Alpha - 3
Alpha Xi Delta - 3
Alpha Delta Pi - 2
Alpha Omicron Pi - 2
Phi Mu - 2
Alpha Chi Omega - 1
Alpha Phi - 1
Delta Delta Delta - 1
Gamma Phi Beta - 1
Kappa Alpha Theta - 1
Kappa Delta - 1
Kappa Kappa Gamma - 1
Pi Beta Phi - 1
Sigma Kappa - 1
Zeta Tau Alpha - 1
Chi Omega - 0
Delta Gamma - 0
Sigma Delta Tau - 0

Why, yes, I do know how to waste time creatively!

Very interesting, Leslie Anne!

For once, this is a list I'm glad we're at the bottom!

Oh, it is not wasting time...it is compiling important data for the greek world. That is pretty interesting! I had no idea that my own group was the only org. on 2 campus!

One of the things that this exercise did for me was to realize which sororities were biggest in the West, NorthEast, and South - or even state by state. I would do one state and think, "wow, we're on every campus!" then move to the next state, and notice that every chapter we had in that state was now closed. Talk about eye openers!

I looked at my Alpha Phi list to compare with yours and I realized I had counted a lot of ones that weren't actually Alpha Phi chapters, for example Zeta Tau Alpha's Phi chapter (which is at my own alma mater!).

Also, I originally counted all asterisked chapters in Irishpipes' list until I went back and researched which were open and which were closed. So, anyway epchick, your count for DG and Alpha Phi was right and now my list reflects that too.

Phi Mu

So in the spirit of procrastination, I decided to compile this list for Phi Mu. I used Irishpipes' list also (which, btw, is so impressive!), so it might not be 100% correct, but it's pretty close.

Kappa Delta: 46
Chi Omega: 46
Delta Zeta: 44
Alpha Delta Pi: 39
Alpha Chi Omega: 37
Alpha Omicron Pi: 36
Alpha Gamma Delta: 33
Delta Delta Delta: 33
Delta Gamma: 32
Alpha Xi Delta: 26
Kappa Alpha Theta: 26
Pi Beta Phi: 25
Kappa Kappa Gamma: 24
Sigma Kappa: 23
Alpha Phi: 21
Gamma Phi Beta: 20
Sigma Sigma Sigma: 20
Alpha Sigma Alpha: 14
Phi Sigma Sigma: 12
Sigma Delta Tau: 10
Delta Phi Epsilon: 9
Alpha Sigma Tau: 7
Alpha Epsilon Phi: 6
Theta Phi Alpha: 4

Why would you be glad to be at the bottom of that list? Being the only NPC chapter at a school doesn't seem like a negative.

Leslie Anne, I wonder if you'd be willing to list which schools have only one chapter. Pretty please?

I can think of quite a few reasons.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I was searching for something else and this thread came up on Google. This thread was active when I was on an extended hiatus from GC. I admit it is a fun read for me. I had to smile about DukeDG's data-love confession, because obviously I am cut from the same cloth.

To address this, I think I know why you posted this, and I appreciate it, but truthfully I didn't create my list for recruitment purposes. I made it because I enjoy data gathering and extrapolation as well as history. I wanted a massive, all-inclusive NPC database, and one did not exist so I tried to create one myself. I had been building it for quite some time before I ever posted it on GC. Prior to that I didn't realize anyone else would be interested. As it became obvious that others suffered from my same curiosity, I decided to share my research. I did so with reservations since I knew it was both incomplete and inaccurate in places. But, by posting it a lot of those holes have been filled.

The list is always evolving. This year I decided the next logical step was to add NPCs that no longer exist. (That's why you see groups listed that may not be familiar to you.) Last year I added chapter designations and dates of operation.

Some NPCs prefer to keep their information closer to their vests, and that makes some holes tougher to fill. I respect their wishes, and only post what is already public.

I'm glad you all have enjoyed playing with the data as much as I have. I apologize that it isn't 100% complete, but then again, I would be sad if it were since I wouldn't have my pet project anymore. If there's any other interesting analysis you all would like to see, let me know. I have the data outside of GC where it is easier to manipulate. (But I don't send out that spreadsheet. Not being selfish, but I combine Access and Excel which is difficult to share.)

Thanks for creating this thread. I had actually given up on my list last year (as for GC) after recurrent unconstructive criticism, so it means a lot to know that some people enjoy it.
