If there is a house, dues go to pay maintenance/utilities fees on the house, sometimes a meal plan (depending on the school/chapter), national membership dues, some social events, IFC dues if your school has those, donations to philanthropy or Foundation, any fees needed for school or community service events, rush t shirts if your chaper orders those, and for things like dinner when a leadership consultant visits you.

Also, fraternities are supported by membership dues. A portion of what you pay goes to the national organization to help keep it running.

Also dues your first semester are a little more because of one time fees like pledging, initiation, and your pin.
