Since I am bored on a Snow Day and the conversation went to travel anyway...

What is the best vacation you've ever had?

Mine was the trip I took to Mexico City in 12th grade with my spanish teacher. It was focused on educational things, but was truly an amazing trip. First, no parents! But, we climbed the pyramids at Teotihuacan, went to Xochimilco, saw the shroud of the Virgin of Guadalupe at the National Cathedral, saw the Ballet Folklorico and a bull fight. It was a great experience and, since my teacher was quite fluent, we didn't have to deal much with language barriers. He had done this trip 10 years in a row so he knew where we could go, safely drink the water, etc. Plus, I roomed with one my (still) best friends and we just had an amazing time.

I have two...

The first is my trip to Greece in 1998. It was awesome. Something that I will never likely do again.

The second was this past year... hubby and I went on a cruise. It wasn't so much the cruise but that we were together for a week straight. It was awesome!

I have several, most within the past few years.

Nassau - with a friend.
NYC - with my girls.
Grand Canyon/Arizona - with my girls, my friend, and her girls.

Reasons they were so good? All were after my separation and/or divorce. All I budgeted for and paid for. All I had nothing else competing for my attention - no internet, no work. No guilt for spending money, whether real or perceived. Good company, good memories...just plain good times.

I took this trip too between my Junior and Senior years in High School. It was amazing. But, add the Tequilla to it and a side trip to Acapulco.

Actually, we did tour a Tequila and pulque factory.. I had forgotten about that! The pulque stuff was AWFUL.. intense and strong. Since there is no real drinking age in Mexico, we were allowed to taste a few things (and our parents knew ahead of time). So, I did try a real pina colada, a margarita, sangria, and Dos Equis, one each, all on different days! We had one day at a resort type place but I'm blanking on the name of it. I want to say Coco something or other, but it was near Mexico City, not on a coast.

New Question

If you could change anything you've done in your life, what would it be?

Mine is that I wouldn't let fear make decisions for me. This is something I'm working on a lot lately. I've missed out on a lot of important things, or made some far reaching decisions, including ending several significant relationships, because of fear.

I wouldn't change getting married, even though I'm now divorced, and I do consider the divorce one of the bravest things I have ever done. I got two fabulous legacies out of that deal.

I agree with Dr D

Yes, fear does dictate way too much. Divorce is a HUGE step. Fortunately I don't have children from #1. However, even more embarrassing for me is making decisions based upon the judgement of others rather than honestly what you want/know to be best.

Court of popular opinion is my achilles heel. But I suppose it goes back to the fear of not being accepted? So I'm reiterating you?

I wouldn't change anything. I firmly believe everything happens for a reason

I never would have started smoking. NEVER!!!!! That's the only thing though.. I think everything ELSE happens for a reason, but I would have never started smoking if I could change it now.

I don't think everything happens for a reason. There are too many horrible things that have happened to me and the idea of those happening purposefully is just too hard to stomach. And those things have contributed to my fear, and affected my decisions and how I handle things.

Admittedly, I may be better and more sensitive in how I handle things, but still...

[There are some who argue that I'm not more sensitive in how I handle things ]

We stayed at the Torre Blanca, out near the airport and the Acapulco Princess sorry about the delay
