ETA: The article makes the incident less severe than CNN made it out to be. Still wrong though.

If you need a hug, you won't get it at Percy Julian Middle School. Principal Victoria Sharts banned hugging among the suburban Chicago school's 860 students anywhere inside the building. She said students were forming "hug lines" that made them late for classes and crowded the hallways.
"Hugging is really more appropriate for airports or for family reunions than passing and seeing each other every few minutes in the halls," Sharts said.
Another reason to institute the no-hugging policy was that some hugs could be too long and too close, she said.
"There is another side to the issue when a hug is either unwanted or becomes inappropriate as judged by one of the students involved," Sharts wrote in a statement to parents. "On occasion, we do deal with those incidents. The goal is always to promote safe and orderly hallways where everybody can get by, be safe, and be on time."

Why am I just now seeing this? My high school banned hugging ("prolonged embracing" according to the student handbook) years ago. At first, it was just hugging between opposite sexes. Then, a handful of girls got mad because they couldn't hug their boyfriends, but the lesbian students could hug their girlfriends. After that, there was a blanket ban on hugging for everyone, but students got pissed because there were a couple of instances where two students would be hugging and faculty would break them apart before realizing one was crying or otherwise upset and the other was comforting that person. So students started protesting that it's not fair that they can't be allowed to comfort a friend because they'll be mistaken for homosexuals in a "prolonged embrace." I don't remember what the final rule ended up being when I graduated--it was amended so many times I lost track.

Court tackles case of girl, 11, impregnated by mom's boyfriend
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...om0131-ON.html
"Michael Chaffer, 40, is accused of impregnating his girlfriend's then 10-year-old daughter, according to Hamilton County prosecutors. While waiting for the hearing to start, the child, who was wearing faded jeans and a T-shirt with her hair tied into a ponytail, sat next to her mother. She chatted about school, music and Disney video games. As prosecutors and attorneys discussed the case and the possibility that the 11-year-old could lose her baby, she wiped away tears with the palms of her hands."

Did anyone hear about this?
http://www.myfoxphilly.com/myfox/pag...Y&pageId=3.2.1
I heard about this on the radio and they played a sound bite from one of the victim's relatives, in which she said that the girl had to have 64 stitches to sew her nose back on her face, another 20 stitches under her nose, 30+ stitches for a gash in her face and the back of her head had to be stapled together. It was also reported that the mother of one of the students who participated in the attack actually drove the group of girls to the school to attack the victim.
