This discussion seems a trifle over our heads
Personally I'm fashion challenged, and if I don't take along a lady with good taste, will likely end up looking the way the sales girl thinks I should (which can be disconcerting if I go into several very different stores).
I sometimes have to ask questions like . . . You mean orange and purple don't look good together?
A lot of time I just buy clothing with a man riding a polo horse and figure that must be reasonably acceptable . . . in yellow and magenta ofcourse
Now personally, I like buying polo stuff, but I don't like paying 80 dollars a shirt. So I recomend factory outlets. Here is a nice web site with a list of them by region.

They usually have good bargains and are worth a couple hour trip if necessary. However, shoppers can be fierce and like sharks in a feeding frenzy sometimes
