Newbie, I like the picture, also, but I agree with you that something slightly more dramatic would be fun.
I think that where I go, highlights and lowlights plus a trim would run me about $150 (before tip), but that's in a suburb of Chicago and so is probably cheaper than where you are. Of course, there are places in the city where it would easily be over $200. I think there are many salons with websites now, so maybe you could find some in your area; they might list prices.
