It is a national sorority (several chapters) but obviously not NPC. Are they able to compete number-wise? And - do they participate fully in the Panhellenic Council? I'm just wondering because it could make a big difference in whether or not the campus would vote to open up for expansion (or perhaps the return of Tri-Sigma).

I believe they do (the website, though outdated, specifically states that it is the governing body for ALL sororities on campus), but I also know that their numbers are not comparable to Chi Omega. My brother heard a rumor they were interested in affiliating with Kappa Kappa Gamma but has heard nothing more since then.

kappa beta gamma...
Your brother is right, they are looking to affiliate with a national organization. Originally (before they became KBG) they were trying for tri-delta (even had their letters in the windows of their dorm room)...but that didn't work out. I think as they see the advantage that the NPC chapters have on our campus, they go back to wanting to be part of that. Their numbers aren't great, but improved with the loss of Sigma.

I believe there are members of KBG on GC, maybe they can provide some info on this?
Also, according to the KBG national website, they are looking to become affiliated with the NPC. I wonder if that would create a different situation for the F&M chapter than if a local org were trying to become NPC affiliated (eg, if KBG as a national org became NPC affiliated at some point in the future after the F&M chapter became part of some other NPC org--then there would possibly be women who knew two rituals). Just my late night rambling....
ETA: Sorry for the hijack, congrats to Alpha Phi!

Ahhh! More info than I knew...I didn't know it was the WHOLE sorority, I heard just the local chapter was trying to affiliate...
And yes, lets not forget the original reason I started this thread...Congrats to Alpha Phi!

I remember some time ago there was discussion about KBG trying to open up as many chapters as possible to become NPC-affiliated.
If the F&M chapter wanted to become part of a NPC now, they would probably have to severe their ties w/ KBG and pursue it then. So even if KBG as a national was absorbed by a NPC, the F&M chapter wouldn't be part of that.
I honestly can't see a blanket absorption happening like that nowadays, though I could be really wrong. I also don't see NPC adding a group anytime soon?
Even though the schools website says the Panhellenic is the governing umbrella of all the schools is it possible that KBG only has affilate membership?
Anyway, congrats to APhi!

KBG is on the Panhellenic council at F&M, because until this year (since Tri-Sigma left), it was just them and Chi Omega. As to the logistics of one chapter from a national, non-NPC sorority trying to affiliate with an NPC group, I have no idea. Not only are there others far better informed on this than I am, but as I said and ilovemyviolets confirmed, at this point it's just a rumor/something they're potentially interested in, who knows if it's possible.

I believe that Kappa Beta Gamma is trying to become the 27th NPC sorority. Not merge or be absorbed by any of the current 26 NPC sororities.
If in fact there are women in KBG at F & M who do want to be part of an NPC sorority, I hope they do it the honorable way - i.e. disaffiliate from KBG as individuals, start up an interest group, and find an NPC - while leaving the KBG chapter existing for anyone who wants to join it. There was a thread on here about a KBG chapter that basically presented itself as a local sorority with no ties and was picked up by an NPC. This eliminated the KBG chapter from the school. The whole thing was shady and really disrespectful to KBG, not to mention the alumnae of that chapter, and I won't go into how much respect I lost for the NPC that picked this group up.
I know people probably think I'm sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I really don't care because this whole deal was one of the crummiest things I've heard in a long time. Just because your vows are not in an NPC sorority doesn't mean they're disposable.

hijack!
On the website, it states they wish to become "Pan-Hellenic" affiliated. Does that mean 1.) not NPC? 2.)NPHC? 3.) or . . . I dont know??
If NPC, surely they mean being absorbed by an established NPC group. I can't imagine trying to get on board now.Would an NPC group absorb several chapters at one time? If they had a chapter at a campus with KBG, would the chapter just be folded into the current one?
Just curious . . .
