No federal hate crime charges will be filed:
The victim went to the trailer on her own free will, apparently to meet some guy she'd met on a phone dating service. However, the six folks involved still face some major state charges, like kidnapping, which could land them in prison for life.
It makes me sad to say this, but honestly, this doesn't surprise me. West Virginia isn't a state known for its tolerance or education. Back in 2000, a gay, black man was beaten, and then run over several times with a car by a couple of teenage boys over some rumors of having a gay relationship.
Here's some more info. Another story that I can remember is a police officer refused to give a man having a heart attack CPR, because man was gay, and the officer thought he was HIV+ (he wasn't).
Biologically, the folks of West Virginia aren't inbred, but the thinking and mentality very much are.
