I was there with some friends from KSC - they were there to watch Axtell. And that's all I know....

And back in that day, you ordered Fraternity Sportswear about once a year. Some guy came around and took orders. I was quite the fashion AOII because I got a light blue hoodie with two tone greek letters! That was a first in about 1980. Previous to that, your choices were gold on blue, blue on white, that kind of thing. I did like my AOII sweats!

I was in Lincoln for a work related meeting at Memorial Stadium back in June. Before the meeting the manager for our company who used to live in Lincoln drove myself and my boss around campus. They weren't nearly as excited as I was when I found the Theta chapter. The chapter houses are beautiful and so amazingly close to campus!

Re: the dairy store. I agree with ISUKappa that the ice cream at VEISHEA is fantastic (I had some this year, I waited for almost half an hour to get it). Michigan State has a dairy store too that had great ice cream when I lived in Michigan. They (MSU) also had chocolate cheese which I just had to try. I rationalized I love chocolate, I love cheese. I did not love chocolate cheese. I'm going to have to hit up the Nebraska Dairy Store some time though...

Too true! In the 70's, all sorority gear was basically the same, no matter which group you joined and no matter how much money you had. You could get a dark blue heavy shirt with sleeves to the elbows with gold sewn on letters, OR a blue snap up the front windbreaker with white sewn on letters or white silkscreened crest over the breast. We lived in those. Party t shirts were made, but we didn't wear them to class. You ordered stuff once a year, or the one store in town that carried greek gear had a few. But how many windbreakers did you need? People got one with letters as a pledge, then usually "traded up" to a crest after initiation.

Bid day gifts? looking back, they had that touching "made at home" look. A small glass jar with decal letters filled with M&M's, a small wooden plaque, hastily stained or painted in your colors, with the same decal, etc. We usually made a trip to the dime store on bid morning to get hershey's kisses, glass jars, etc. None of the houses gave out anything but pledge ribbons (to be worn to class until you were officially pledged and got your pledge pin) and Bid Day t shirts.

Quota at K State was 41. The only result I have heard was Alpha Xi Delta took 43.

My bid day gift was probably a stuffed panda, end of story. I was social chair and it was a real big deal to order the right favor for Formal. We only had favors about 4 times a year - everyone had wine glasses, etc so I did something out of the box and got us red Rose Formal nighshirts. You know, v neck to the knees?

And, I wore my blue windbreaker with a stylish gray zip up sweatshirt layered underneath. And on Bid day we all got sweatshirts to wear while we serenaded the fraternities - hot red and white sweatshirts to wear in SEPTEMBER. That's what we did- we went out to eat, changed into jeans and the sweatshirts and the picture man followed us around to sing our songs we just learned as the sororities showed off their pledges to all the boys.

You had to wear the stylish gray zip up sweatshirt because it was so darned cold in Nebraska! I kept asking my daughter if she needed a sorority jacket--that's how you identified people on campus--all greeks in their navy blue windbreakers!

We also got a white long sleeved Kappa Kappa Gamma sweatshirt on bid day--I have so many Pictureman pictures (who ever brought their own camera?!) of us in shorts wearing those sweatshirts with the sleeves pushed up as far as possible! You have to admit, a sweatshirt was a lot more useful in Nebraska than a t-shirt! When we went on our visit in February, we ate at Harper and my daughter said "I can't believe everybody in this place is wearing sweatpants!"

You can tell my kids are Southerners, they wear flip flops and shorts about 10 months of the year!
