That to me isn't what she meant by a "social life." That's just, well, a life. If she was such a freakazoid that she couldn't communicate with others, I doubt she could hold down a job.
I took it to mean that she didn't spend time doing much other than school and work. She might socialize with people in class or at work, but not spend time with other people outside of those.
