I was a bit disappointed in book 7. It wasn't bad,I just found it a bit predictable. I wish she would have taken a few more risks with it, maybe thrown in a couple of real twists and turns.

It ends well. Many many questions are answered, allies declared, a few friends are lost along the way. I don't want to give too much away either. PM me if you REALLY want to know the ending.

Finally finished. It came via the post office which is BS because my shipping tracking said UPS. I got all upset when I saw the UPS truck go zooming by my house.
Amazon made great packaging for them though. And oh my god, I have to say the funniest part was Neville announcing that they were going to throw mandrakes at the deatheaters over the walls. And if you get mad at me for writing that, you shouldn't be reading this thread in the first place!
It was really great though, she did wrap things up nicely and it was great to see some theories that have been floating around finally come to fruition.

I <3 Neville in this book. The whole book was good, but Hogwarts on was excellent. Mrs. Weasley is clearly where Ginny gets her skills from.
Mine came via UPS -> USPS too.

Professor Longbottom was amazing! And I love how the Malfoys turn out at the end. Nothing like being the bigger man.

I just finished the book at 12:30...It arrived today (Saturday) at 2:00 pm via UPS and aside from a dinner break, a 1/2 hour trip to Publix and a few smoke/bathroom breaks, I've been reading the whole night.
I laughed, I cried, I cheered for Mrs. Weasley (if you've read it you know the part I mean) and I totally enjoyed it. I will miss the excitement of a new Harry book, but this will be a series I can enjoy with my children as they grow up...
Long Live Harry Potter!!!

No way funnier was Snape saying "So do you want me to kill you now, or would you like time to write an epitaph." I could so hear Alan Rickman saying that line. I hope they leave it in the movie.

He summoned it. He was going to destroy it (and Neville in the process) as part of his plan for Hogwarts simply to become Slytherin House.

I thought it was too predictable as well. Overall, I liked it...still not entirely sure how I like the ending...I think I need to re-read it. I read it between plane flights and while waiting for luggage, so I think I lost some of the effect.
And what was with ALL of Slytherin leaving Hogworts. I can't believe the entire house would leave and slide with Vodlemort. That bothered me. Why bother even having a house of Slytherin in the "new" Hogworts if it only produces evil witches and wizards? I refuse to believe the whole house was evil- even people like the Malfoys had a change of heart(somewhat) in the end.

hijack/ I hate to say this, but as I'm re-reading the book, I'm finding myself skipping over whole parts and chapters, not exactly to get to the end, but just because I don't want to read them (i.e. like during the whole hunt for the Horcruxes with Harry and hermione... i just found it to drag and be kind of painful)
does anyone else do this?

Well... I think it's kind of strange that you're re-reading it so soon after finishing. I know that I would not be able to focus fully on the book if I did that, and probably would do the same as you. Why are you re-reading? Just to catch things that you missed? Or because you just enjoyed it so much the first time?
I know that I re-read OoTP about three months afterward, but that was mostly because I read it really super fast the first time while on vacation and I found that I had missed some important things!

I just heard that some people's books are missing pages 371-402. There would have been a real issue in this house if our books were missing pages!

I would tend to agree, especially if one means reading the books and then saying "now, let's talk about the Holocaust."
However, in the best tradition of fantasy, myth and fairy tales, these stories do portray the best and the worst in people, and life and death, in a way that helps kids start to get a handle on them. They do lay some groundwork, so to speak.

Her oldest daughter was already born when she started writing the series, but her other two children were born during. She said in one interview, that if she saw a boggart, she would see what Molly Weasley saw -- her own children dead.
Also, her mother died (of MS at age 45) while she was writing Book 1.

I wasn't expecting that either, but when I got to it, I felt like slapping myself on the forehead. She said back in 2000 that she was glad no one had quizzed her too closely on her religious beliefs, because then they'd see where the books were headed.
At the core, the books are about the power of love, and "greater love has no man than this, that he lay his life down for his friends."
