Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't this statement be to "profess" or to "proclaim" God or the Lord? I thought confessing meant admitting one did something wrong. And if one is saying God is good, why would he or she "confess" the Lord?

No, it's a correct use of the word, the primary meaning of which to acknowledge, declare or admit. To confess that Christ is Lord is to acknowledge or declare that he is Lord. To confess one's sins is to acknowledge or admit one's sins.
