That's where this comes in:

Cool

I lurk a lot as well and rarely post - but please please please continue! It never crossed my mind that this was fake. It actually sounds very typical of "Rush" in the late 70's, 80's - specifically at competitive schools.

Well, it had to be recently enough for colored contacts to be widely available, so that rules out the 70s. (I think colored contacts started publicly in the late 80s or so though...I know I started wearing regular contacts in 1990ish, and if I recall correctly colored lenses were an option then.)

Honestly, I think that tidbit was the detail that surprised me the most...after reading all the SEC rush warnings, nothing anyone could say about rush outfits would surprise me. But, the idea that people might actually change up the color of their eyes from day to day sounded so to me...that thought never even occurred to me!

Really?
Peculiar...

I know lots of people who alternate colored contacts depending on what they're wearing etc. It's not like they go from natural brown to bright green, but they do it. Heck, I used to do it.

I think we may never hear the rest of the "story." I have my doubts but was waiting to see what would happen in the end.

Is it possible that the OP is writing this as a punishment to all of us who are addicted to the retro recruitment threads?

I don't care what she did, what she does, or when she went through rush/recruitment as long as she gives an update soon

Those of us with actual glasses don't usually have that luxury though. I've had colored contacts, but expecting to afford boxes in multiple colors? Yeah, vision insurance doesn't pay for that. If I had 20/20 vision, I could buy the cheap ones that just change your eye color and not worry about it. (But I wouldn't, I got beyond that phase in high school)

I used to do that, but my doctor usually gave me a "sample" of the colored ones in my prescription. So I had blue and brown (my natural color is green) and would alternate depending on what I felt like wearing.

As for the snarky-ness in response to this thread.... just stop reading if you don't like the retro threads. I enjoy them....it passes the time when I'm unmotivated at work. No need to cause internet drama....it's not worth it. Personally, I'd like to hear the end of the story! But it's not looking like that'll happen.

I am not going to be pleased if you guys ran her off.

Things are boring beyond belief here at work, and if I have to go back to reading work reports, I'll scream.

I am so enjoying this! Living vicariously! I went through rush at Penn State - no mansions: only the boys had mansions, we had unairconditioned group rooms on the first floor of the dorms, no real "designer'" clothes, certainly no heirloom jewelry. I am REALLY dating myself, but I thought I was Hot Stuff in my plastic Candies slides (the FIRST time around)!!! The closest thing we had to celebrities were Angelina Jolie's cousins (and no one had ever heard of her yet) and a pro football coach's daughter.

This beats the hell out of reading about rheumatoid arthritis, colony stimulating factors, or GI disorders......

What would make you assume that I do not have prescription contacts? In fact, I am almost blind!! Well not really, but I feel like it stumbling around in the morning searching for my glasses until I can wake-up enough to put contacts in. Besides, you can get a box of freshlook colorblends for $15, not to mention samples the doctor gives you, so it really isn't that expensive if you have the money to indulge in that behavior.

I stopped wearing colored contacts consistently a little bit after I got out of high school, but occasionally I'll wear the "enhancers" to make my eyes stand out more for certain things (like plays).

A quick google check shows "colored contact lenses a hit in Paris" in 1951 New York Times article. It also shows various us and foreign patents dating back to the mid-60s. SO...someone with money MIGHT have them. However, generally available ones come on the market after a 1988 patent was issued.

I WANT MORE OF THIS STORY...let's all just enjoy the story.

I had two sets of colored contacts (hard lenses) in the late1960s/early 1970s. One set was blue and one set (replacement set) was violet.
