You don't know who your mom is, you find out during I-week, they buy you your first letters and make you a paddle, you give them a pillow.
Anywho-my family colours are maroon with white trim on a grey background. Kinda neat because they're also the school colours.

That's really interesting. So you kind of have two bigs? Are you generally closer with your "mom/sigma" than with your big? And then your big could easily be in a different "family" than you, am I getting that right? That's really unique!

Pretty much right on both accounts. I was (still am) a lot closer to my big but that was due to extenuating circumstances. I still love my mom, otherwise I would not have requested her
But yeah, your big and your mom are in different families most of the time. My big wound up being part of my mother/daughter family though I can't quite remember how-whose mother she is.
SigKapCoug-I have block letters with our colours I got them on a pair of black butt pants (the letters on the butt). Maroon letters with lavender trim. I think I got them from http://www.sororityspecialties.com. Alas I cannot wear them anymore because the drawstring came out during the wash and I have no idea how to get it back in. The one time I DON'T tie it in a bow for washing...geez.

You can get a plastic straw from about any food place, cut a slit in it maybe an inch or so from the end. Put the drawstring through it, tie a knot, then work the straw through. When it comes through the other end, tie a knot on the strawless end, cut the straw.
Voila!

Gamma Phi has adopted pink as an "unofficial" color - this last convention. Basically, it is used in our new official logo and they specify certain shades of pink. It is acts as an accent color to our brown and mode. So, if Gamma Phi chapters are using pink, they are in compliance with their IHQs dictates. I will say the Gamma Phi pink is "hotter" than most Phi Mu pinks I've seen - but then Phi Mu HQ has a hot pink golf cart that is as cute as a bug!

Oh yes, I have seen the new logo, but prior to that I noticed a lot of chapters adopted pink and white. The new logo is very cute, but I like it because it incorporates the brown which is an official color. I understand a bit better now since as someone said, they took if from the flower, unfortunately for both of us, it happens to be the same flower! LOL! Yes, I'm a huge fan of that hot pink golf cart, many of my chapter sisters have been in it. Hoepfully I will one day get the chance.

Gamma Phi has had a tradition of chapter colors - for example, my chapter colors were red and blue - so it is possible a chapter had the colors of pink and white (although that would not be advisible on a campus with Phi Mu!). Everyone in my chapter had to have an official jersey in the chapter colors.
I like having my letters in various colors - my favorite shirt right now is dark gray with pink letters.
And I hate the letters on the butt.

I don't care if girls wear other colors in their letters. If guys wear other colors, plaid, paisely or dots it is extremly gaaaaay. I doubt Derek Jeter will ever be caught wearing a pink, green and paisley Yankee cap. A Rod probably has one though.

I wear my letters in colors than our own. In my chapter, Bigs made matching shirts for themselves and their new little(s) for revealing. In addition, each family usually had a matching sweatshirt made.
My family letters are pink and yellow polka dots with silver background on a pink sweatshirt.
The matching letters I made for my little & I are a purple star print on a silver background.
The matching letters my Big made for us (I'm a quadruplet) are red sequins on a white background on a black sweatshirt.

My chapter has always had various prints, patterns, and colors. Now, if another sorority, say Alpha Phi, is using their colors for their recruitment shirts, the other sororities will be respectful and not use those colors at all on our shirts.
But, each 'family' in my chapter also has their own prints or colors for their 'family' shirts. (example, one has a black shirt, with a silver background, and a verigated green letters....another has a grey hoodie, with a rainbow colored foreground letter with stars and the background is purple with silver stars--looks cool). So, within the chapter, the girls respect those designs.
But, on my campus, no one only wears their colors, they were all kinds of designs.

This might be straying, but how does everyone feel about having the letters on the butt?
P.S. The drawstring trick straw thing is SUPER smart -- I had to do that with a sweatshirt and I sat there for like 30 minutes trying to pull it through because I didn't know about the straw trick.

Vera Bradley
I'm not sure if anyone has posted this before. One of my sisters has a sweatshirt with Vera Bradley letters. She said she bought a cheap "ditty bag" ($15) and had the Greek Store cut the bag and use the fabric from it. I thought it was such a cool idea and a lot cheaper than buying the fabric by the yard. I think its something like $100+ per yard.

Okay, funny story! At my chapter, some girls decided they wanted butt letters to wear during intramurals (it can be hard to identify who is who when people tend to all wear black). One of the alums got very heated and asked them if they were planning on sitting and farting on their letters since they were so conveniently placed! Of course they promptly answered no! Their intentions were great, but at out chapter butt letters are frowned upon.
Another big no-no. is your letters with another org.'s name embroidered on top. Some one showed up with a Phi Mu/Phi Gamma Delta jersey and well...the reception was poor... after that it was everything but said that you are not in some other group, so why should their name go on top of your own? I guess my chapter is pretty "hardcore" for being so non-traditional...never thought about it before!

I would never wear my letters, or any of my other sorority gear, in a different color. Even if I did a patterned background, the pattern's coloring would have to be consistent with my sorority's colors.
As far as wearing the letters across the seats of pants goes, I don't think LADIES should wear any kind of writing across their behinds, period. But, that's just my old-school, Bible-belt, South Carolina upbringing, LOL.
