We have new member presentations and our line did theirs on Sat. to just the chapter. It was tight. That was because we did not have a public reception. But if an alumnae chapter does hold an open reception (usually family and friends) for their new initiates, it can be done there.

Congrats as well!!! What area is the chapter in?

I spoke with my sister who just crossed Grad. and she said that they had a big picnic where the 9 of them were introduce to family, friends, and other members.

Graduate chapter

I noticed that graduate chapters are more concentrated than their undergraduate chapters. Is the intake process the same or different? Or is it more a time, money an community projects thing?

PLEGDE VS. PAPER!

I'm interested in joining a graduate chapter of Omega Psi Phi in my area but I'm a bit concerned about this paper vs. pledge thing that may be goin' on. Is there such a thing? I AM DETERMINED to become an Omega man REGARDLESS!:

Questions

As far as Intake is concerned. From what I have heard, though I am not a Man of Omega, it is a matter of getting to know people in the Graduate chapter and then things go from there. Decisions are made and if in your favor, then things step forward.

Now on the Paper vs Pledge issue.... The best thing to do and something I have learned in life is to follow your heart, keep things do yourself, and ask questions. But I will say this..I have never heard of or encountered paper members of Omega Psi Phi. Take into account that I am an outsider so I dont know it all but I have never experienced it.

AS far as you being a member or wanting to be a member...I personally I wouldnt mention it on the Forum unless you are PM'ing someone and the conversation is preivate. You knever know who is online and from what I understand this is a personal issue. No disrespect intended. I am not greek and there are also some others here that are not greek. Some have gone up here and expressed intirely the interests in this organization and everything they want to do and so on. Not the greatest idea. From what i have learned is if that is what you deisre, come humbly, and discretion is the key and important. Find someone whom you can chat with here that is a member and then branch off from there. Its a little safer that way. We all have aspirations and goals, but there is different way of getting to each. But if you have some questions, the best person to direct them to in my opinion is Wolfman. He is a good guy and very knowledgable about a lot of things.

Just looking out.

The two posts concerning intake, if I interpret them correctly, revolve around interest in becoming a member of Omega Psi Phi. What I'm saying mirrors what you'll find on the FAQs section of the national website. It's important b/c it's reflects the truth (not PR)--the way things actually work in the culture of Omega. Since it's about brotherhood, it's quintessentially about relationships. You have to get to know active brothers, who want to know who you really are, to see if you are worthy of that honor. As I have done many times when talking to potential aspiriants face to face, the first question I ask them is this: Pourquoi? (Why?) Then: Where are you coming from? What kind of character do you possess? What do you want to get out of Omega? What do you have to offer Omega? Are you mature enough for Omega (not what is your chronological age)? What kind of service are you actively involved in in your community, church, profession, etc? I want to know who your friends are, who tangibly influences your life. This is where it starts.
